First Cameron LNG cargo bound for France.

According to the latest Reuters report, the first LNG cargo to be shipped from Sempra Energy’s US$10 billion Cameron LNG export terminal is due to be delivered to Dunkirk, France, on 18 June.

The cargo is being carried by the Marvel Crane, a tanker chartered by Mitsui & Co Ltd.

Sources suggest that there was originally interest from Japanese stakeholders of the project to have the first cargo from the project shipped to Japan to fulfil domestic needs, however the current weak state of spot prices in Asia altered these plans. Indeed, due to well-stocked inventories and oversupply lowering prices, it is not currently economically viable for Asian countries to import US LNG.

Cameron LNG commenced operations at its first train, which produced this initial cargo, in mid-May. Sempra has set expectations for Cameron 2 and 3 to become operation in 1Q and 2Q 2020. (June 12, 2019)
