Lack of gas supplies causes technogenic state of emergency announced in two regions of Ukraine.

Government organizations can't buy enough gas to safely pass the winter season due to the rapid growth of gas prices worldwide.

Administrations of two Ukrainian regions decided to introduce the technogenic state of emergency due to the absence of natural gas supplies for budget institutions for the winter of 2021-2022. Regional committees for emergencies in Lviv and Khmelnytsky regions made respective decisions during their recent sessions.

Officials report that government organizations can't buy enough gas to safely pass the winter season due to the rapid growth of gas prices worldwide.

Lviv regional state administration claimed that 825 governmental offices consume natural gas for their own needs. These offices have more than 4,000 points of gas account. Only 986 of these are working now (that's 23.4 percent). This is because most of the government offices that use natural gas for heating have not yet signed agreements for gas supplies.

"The situation that occurred could lead to the end where we might fail to start the heating season in time. That, in turn, could affect the health and lives of residents in this region"m said Viltaliy Zahaynyi, the deputy head of Lviv regional state administration.  (October 13, 2021)
