Reuters is reporting that Delfin LNG LLC has submitted a request to the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for an extension to the building time of its proposed floating LNG project.
Delfin’s LNG project involves the construction and operation of onshore facilities with the ability to connect with, and deliver natural gas to, FLNG vessels off the coast of Cameron Parish, Louisiana. The project is designed to produce up to 13 million tpy of LNG.
The original order from the US FERC was issued on 28 September 2017 and required Delfin to finish construction of the proposed facilities within two years of the order date. The requested extension time is three years and six months.
The Delfin’s current timetable reportedly has a final investment decision being made at the end of 2019, and first LNG production scheduled for 2023.
The company recently cited “the detailed nature of the engineering design of the offshore facilities, which includes floating liquefaction technology, and the complexity of developing the necessary commercial arrangements”, as the reason for the slow progress of the project. (June 25, 2019)
