Brazil's National Social and Economic Development Bank said on Friday it had approved BRL 150 million (USD 26m/EUR 23.9m) in financing for the construction of four industrial effluent treatment plants with biogas production.
The new biogas plants will be implemented in the Araraquara, Tres Rios, Carazinho and Sao Jorge D'Oeste units of Brazil's dairy products company Grupo Piracanjuba.
BNDES pointed out that the funds will also be used to replace boilers that currently consume fossil fuels at the Araraquara and Tres Rios factories.
Once up and running, the four facilities will be able to reach a maximum production of around 11.7 million normal cubic metres of biogas per year. This is enough to allow Grupo Piracanjuba to offset some 152,700 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions annually.
BNDES noted that the approved funding comes from its Climate Fund. (March 10, 2025, Source: https://renewablesnow.com/news/brazils-bndes-okays-usd-26m-in-financing-for-biogas-projects-1272039/)
