A unit of Norwegian hydrogen technology firm Nel ASA and local hydrogen systems developer HydePoint AS have signed a pact to co-develop industrial-scale green hydrogen production configurations for offshore, nearshore and other harsh environments.
Nel Hydrogen and HydePoint have entered into a memorandum of understanding to integrate Nel’s proton exchange membrane electrolyser stacks into HydePoint’s modular hydrogen production systems. The collaboration will seek to significantly improve the Levelised Cost of Hydrogen, thus enabling large-scale production.
“HydePoint brings a highly innovative approach to marine-based hydrogen systems. We see strong alignment between our PEM technology and HydePoint’s ambition to deliver resilient, modular solutions for the global clean energy transition,” said Todd Cartwright, CCO at Nel Hydrogen.
Nel Hydrogen specialises in both PEM and alkaline water electrolysis technology.
Backed by Kongsberg Group, Moreld, and Vergia, HydePoint develops scalable hydrogen production systems for dockside, nearshore and offshore applications.
In November, the company teamed up with Norwegian Hydrogen to speed up the development of mid-size 10-40 MW dockside and nearshore green hydrogen projects. The objective of this partnership is to scale hydrogen production within a two-to-three-year timeframe while laying the foundation for large-scale, offshore wind-integrated hydrogen ventures in the next phase.
