Eleven parties have signed a joint development agreement to create the world’s first liquid hydrogen import corridor between Oman, the Netherlands and Germany, the port of Amsterdam said on Wednesday.
The corridor will connect the port of Duqm in Oman, the port of Amsterdam and German logistics hubs, including the port of Duisburg.
Oman’s Minister of Energy and Minerals, Salim Nasser Al Aufi, said the agreement is a step towards delivering large-scale green hydrogen volumes from Oman to Europe by 2029. It builds on an existing partnership between Oman’s green hydrogen orchestrator Hydrom, the Omani Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the port of Amsterdam, ECOLOG and EnBW for the development of the liquid hydrogen corridor.
The agreement, signed during the visit by the Sultan of Oman to the Netherlands, involves parties like Oman energy group OQ, Tata Steel Nederland, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG and Hynetwork. It covers the development of a liquefaction, storage and export facility at the port of Duqm, discussions on the pricing and delivery of liquid hydrogen to offtakers in the Netherlands and Germany, with EnBW as the aggregator, as well as the development of dedicated infrastructure throughout the corridor, including port, pipeline and rail facilities.
