Italy’s Adriatic LNG terminal has launched the accreditation phase for Open Season 2025. Eligible bidders can acquire slots for medium to long-term regas capacity in the period between January 2029 and December 2050.
To participate in the bidding, operators need to apply for accreditation by September 12th. The actual binding phase will run from September 17th to October 3rd, 2025.
On offer are either individual unloading slots or annual volumes with a minimum subscription threshold. A total of 38 unloading slots of 165,000 liquid cubic meters each are being made available for the period 2029–2034. For the subsequent years through 2050, the available regas capacity is offered as volumes for fixed-durations of 16, 10, or 5 consecutive years starting from 2035.
Interested partied need to request least 1 billion cubic meters per year of regas capacity over the offered period in the various sessions.
Situated some 15 km off the Veneto coast near Rovigo, the Adriatic LNG terminal sits close to Italy’s dense industrial and residential demand centres in the northeast. Shipments to the terminal mainly originate from Qatar and the U.S.
Adriatic LNG is owned by the infrastructure company VTTI (70%) and the Italian TSO Snam (30%). With an authorized maximum regas capacity of 10.4 bcm/y, and a 99.7% operational reliability rate, the Adriatic LNG terminal is vital for Italy’s energy security. Since its start-up, the terminal received 1,180 LNG carriers from 10 different countries, delivering more than 106 bcm of gas into the Italian network.
Global LNG markets will expand by around 26 bcm this year, up 5% from 2024 levels, according to the International Energy Agency.
