China ramps up Russian gas supplies

Russia's Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corp have signed an agreement to increase annual gas supplies to China.

The extra supplies will come via the Power of Siberia pipeline, as well as the Far Eastern route, according to Russia's RIA agency.

Reuters reported last month that China was seeking to buy more Russian gas through an existing pipeline, as talks between the two countries have failed to make progress on building a second link.

The agreements were signed during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to China .

RIA, quoting Gazprom's CEO, Alexei Miller, said that the two companies have agreed to increase supplies to 44 bill cu m a year from 38 bill a year.

In addition, they have agreed to increase gas supplies via the Far Eastern route to 12 bill cu m from 10 bill.

Miller also said that a legally binding memorandum has been signed for the construction of the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline to China and the Soyuz Vostok transit gas pipeline through Mongolia.

"Gazprom and CNPC also signed today a new memorandum on strategic co-operation, which reflects a new stage in our work with CNPC on new projects," Miller said.

China recently received an LNG shipment on a sanctioned LNGC from the Arctic LNG 2 project via the Northern Sea Route and also receives LNG from Sakhalin by ship. (September 2, 2025, Source: https://lngjournal.com/index.php/latest-news-mainmenu-47/item/114301-china-ramps-up-russian-gas-supplies)
