VORN Bioenergy secures funds for its 1st biomethane plant in Italy

VORN Bioenergy has secured project financing for its first biomethane plant in Italy, which is already under construction in the municipality of Ferrara and is designed to produce 8.5 million cubic metres of green gas per year.

The fresh capital is being provided by ING Italia, which also acts as a hedging bank and sustainability coordinator. The financing, for which specific figures were not provided, includes accordion facilities that allow VORN to raise additional funds for more Italian projects.

With an estimated value in the mid-double-digit million euro range, the Ferrara project entered the construction phase in November 2024 and targets initial completion in mid-2026. It will process 60-70% livestock manure and 30-40% renewable raw materials and agricultural by-products. Once operational, the site will be capable of covering the thermal needs of about 7,000 households.

VORN intends to operate the plant directly and is currently working on further projects in Italy, where it plans to achieve an annual output of 2 TWh of biomethane by 2030.

The Italian project advances VORN’s expansion plan across Italy, Spain and Poland. The company, which has so far built more than 40 plants in Europe, plans to enlarge its portfolio through both greenfield developments and brownfield initiatives.
