German energy company Uniper SE has obtained planning permission for a 120-MW green hydrogen production plant in the UK’s Humber region, with the potential for a 200-MW-plus expansion in the future.
The nod was granted by the North Lincolnshire Council following an application submitted in October.
The electrolytic hydrogen plant will be built on land at Uniper’s existing Killingholme natural gas power station. Its output will be in line with the UK government’s Low Carbon Hydrogen Standard and is planned to be supplied to Phillips 66 Limited’s Humber Refinery, starting in 2029.
Uniper unveiled plans for the Humber H2ub project in March 2024. In 2025, the German firm awarded a front-end engineering design contract to British electrolyser maker ITM Power Plc.
The Humber H2ub project has been shortlisted in the UK Government’s Hydrogen Allocation Round 2 programme. (March 24, 2026, Source: https://renewablesnow.com/news/uniper-gets-planning-nod-for-120-mw-humber-h2ub-project-1291866/)
