Ammongas to deliver upgrading system for biomethane project in Spain

Danish renewable energy company European Energy said on Monday that its biogas upgrading subsidiary Ammongas has secured an agreement to supply a biomethane upgrading system for a new renewable gas project near Valencia, marking its entry into the Spanish market.

Ammongas will deliver a complete upgrading solution for a planned biomethane facility in Lliria, around 30 km (18.6 miles) northwest of Valencia. The project is owned by The Green Vector, a joint venture between Spanish renewable gases companies Enagas Renovables and Genia Bioenergy.

The facility will convert biogas produced from agricultural and livestock waste into biomethane for injection into Spain's gas grid, European Energy said.

Under the agreement, Ammongas will provide an upgrading system with a design capacity of 1,850 normal cubic metres per hour and expected annual biomethane production of around 90 GWh.

The company said the system would reduce methane emissions and comply with European Union regulatory requirements. The facility is also expected to be capable of reusing more than 80% of the heat used in the upgrading process.

“Biomethane development in Spain has accelerated in recent years, and we are now seeing more innovative projects being developed than previously typical for the market,” said Daniel Silva Cepeda, commercial manager for Spain and southern Europe at Ammongas.
