Switzerland-based Axpo has completed its first liquefied natural gas bunkering operation in the Spanish port of Valencia.
Axpo said in a statement on Tuesday that the ship-to-ship transfer refueled a container vessel for a “leading global transport and logistics company” with LNG, more than half of which was bio-LNG.
The company provided LNG fuel via the 12,500-cbm bunkering vessel Alsios LNG.
Axpo did not provide further details regarding the operation.
In March, Enagas and Axpo put the newbuild LNG bunkering vessel Alisios LNG into service following a ceremony at the Spanish port of Huelva.
Alisios LNG loads LNG at the Enagas-operated Huelva LNG terminal.
In May this year, units of Shell and Axpo received approvals from Spain’s Port Authority of Valencia to provide commercial LNG bunkering services in three ports.
The ports are Valencia, Sagunto, and Gandia, and the concessions are valid for six years.
Boosting LNG bunkering network
Axpo noted that its presence in Spanish ports has grown “substantially” over the past year and a half.
The company said Valencia is the fourth port in Spain where it has conducted LNG bunkering, following earlier operations in Malaga, Algeciras, and Barcelona.
In Italy, Axpo carried out the country’s first ship-to-ship bio-LNG refueling in Genoa in December 2025.
Further operations followed in Naples in May 2026 and Civitavecchia in August 2026. (October 14, 2026, Source: https://lngprime.com/europe/axpo-in-first-valencia-lng-bunkering-op/198382/)
